    Technical Overview

How a Nurse Call System Works

Call points at each bed, bathroom and treatment area let a patient raise a call with a button, pull cord or handheld device.

A call activates a corridor dome light outside the room, an audible and visual alert at the nurse-station console, and — where configured — an alert to the assigned nurse's pager, DECT handset or smartphone.

Priority handling ensures a bathroom or code-blue call overrides routine calls. Escalation re-routes a call that is not answered within a set time to a second responder or a supervisor.

Every call and response is timestamped and logged, giving the facility objective response-time data for workflow review and accreditation.

    Key Features

    System Capabilities

    Wired Systems

Robust, low-maintenance call points hard-wired back to ward controllers — the long-life choice for new-build hospitals.

    Wireless Systems

RF and Wi-Fi call points for retrofits and care homes, installed without chasing walls or closing wards.

    IP-Based Systems

Call points as network nodes on the hospital LAN, with two-way audio, EHR integration and management dashboards.

    Corridor & Zone Indication

Multi-colour dome lights and zone displays so staff see call status and priority at a glance from down the corridor.

    Mobile & Paging Integration

Calls routed to DECT, pagers or smartphones by nurse assignment and zone, with time-based escalation.

    EHR / HIS Integration

IP systems can associate calls with patient records and push events to hospital information systems.

    Advantages

    Benefits of Automation

    • Response times fall when calls reach the right nurse directly, not just a central buzzer.
    • Priority and escalation make sure bathroom falls and code-blue events cannot be lost in routine traffic.
    • Wireless options let an operating facility upgrade without closing wards.
    • IP systems turn call data into workflow insight — which wards are understaffed and when.
    • Timestamped logs support accreditation, incident review and staffing decisions.
    • Designed to your facility, then maintained so every point stays trusted.
